finding the correct AQL

Hi,

   I know in the sampling scheme we define the sample sizes for various inspection severities and AQLs. But how does the system know which AQL to pick for a given lot size ? Also how does it know which inspection severity to pick ? I am guessing that if DMR is NOT set up then the severity is always normal but if DMR is set up then the severity could be reduced or tightened.
